You may be a person that likes to wear very little make up, or a lot (like me). Either way I think this will help you! Please don't take the things I talk about as something that everybody HAS to do, I am just sharing what works for me. You may use all or none of this. And that's totally up to the individual!
Mask - When I've got something on, I like to start preparing my skin before I start my make up so I use a mask such as the one in this picture which is Ultraceuticals Ultra Energising Mask. This gives my skin a lift when it is looking a bit dull and makes it feel beautifully soft. Sometimes I will use an exfoliating one and that also does a great job at getting rid of any dead skin cells, leaving me with nice fresh skin.
Primer - I think that whatever moisturiser you use is up to you but you but a good primer underneath your foundation will help give you an ultra smooth base to apply your foundation to and make it stay put for longer. There are different primers for different purposes such as pore filling or mattifying depending on your skins needs. My skin doesn't tend to get very oily and I have a few pores around my nose that annoy me, and the primer I use here tends to fill in those pores while also giving me a smooth face so no dry patches come through after I've applied makeup. This one is the Youngblood Mineral Primer.
Foundation - You need a good long lasting foundation so that it's not wearing off through the night and you find yourself having to reapply. The primer will help with this too. You should only need to take touch up power with you if anything. With this foundation though, I don't need to touch up at all. It is the Mooie Makeup Total Cover Creme Foundation. I discovered this one a while ago at a makeup class I went to and it is brilliant. It lasts all day on my dry-ish skin, and has natural ingredients. I don't want to go into too much detail about this yet, there is a blog just about Mooie Makeup in the near future. With this foundation, you do not need a primer or even a moisturiser for it to be applied, but I still do because I have dry skin and this tends to give me a more dewy finish that I like. Plus, being in my early 30's I don't want to have my dry patches showing through because it will make me look older!
I have included my Mooie blending sponge in the picture - makes application perfect!
Concealer - It's a good idea to have 2 concealer colours, one the same colour as your foundation to cover blemishes, and the other to hide under eye dark circles and to highlight the area. Choose a good one and it will be your best friend. Here I have LA Girl Pro Conceal.
Eye Brow Powder & Mascara - I think that for a basic face, we need to frame it by filling in and having a bit of shape to our eyes brows and add a couple of coats of black mascara on the eyelashes. I have Essence Eyebrow Kit and Maybeline The Falsies mascara.
Additional Products Of Choice - Lastly, I feel like of you have got those basics happening then you can add whatever your heart desires to add to your look. You can add in eyeshadows, bronzer, blush, lipstick... The list goes on. If you want to know the best ways to apply any of the things talked about I suggest you look on YouTube. There are literally hundreds of tutorials on everything you can think of from basics through to very in depth detailed looks. Then PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE! It's the only way to get better at something you are not confident in. In the meantime, I hope what I have shared with you today helps get you off to a good start.
Here is a picture of me after using these products (and a few others) but it was at the end of the night rather than the beginning as I ran out of time getting ready as we ladies tend to to sometimes!! I was still very happy with how my makeup held up throughput the night and believe the things I have shown you here today are the reason! This was after around 8 hours.
If you have any questions about anything I have suggested here today please let me know, I want my blogs to be readable and useful for everyone whether you love using makeup and are looking for new things to try or don't have that much of an interest in it and maybe just need a few basic pointers. If you want to know where I purchased any of the items please contact me anytime.
Do you have any must have products that you use for special occasions? I'd love to hear from you!
Love,
Emma xx
